Nykaa Unicorn Potion Nail Enamel: Frosted Fairy ~ Review & Swatch

Nykaa launched Unicorn Potion range a couple of months back and it was a pleasant surprise to see such collection in Indian market. Although Nykaa describes it as ‘Holographic’ polish, these are NOT holographic in any sense. A couple of shades may be duochrome but none of them is Holographic. For the record, a true Holo polish should reflect light in full spectrum of colors, like THIS nailpolish does. Nykaa Unicorn Potion Nail Enamel was launched in 5 shades and I have two shades with me. In this post I am reviewing my fav from this range- Frosted Fairy.

Product description: Glittering fairy dust and fairy wings, makes any girl dream of magical things! You are never too old for fairy tales with Nykaa Unicorn Potion Nail Enamel in Frosted Fairy. This purple hue with pink and purple iridescent pearl gives the effect of having pixie dust on your tips. You can go ahead and call us your Fairy God Mother!

Nykaa Unicorn Potion Nail Enamel Frosted Fairy review

All Nykaa Nail Enamel come in sleek rectangular packaging with brand name on front and product details at the back. Unicorn Potion Nail enamel range has an interesting packaging with elongated and pointed cap (copy of Louboutin nailpolish?). The rose gold color of the cap with mirror finish is attractive.  The pointed cap makes it bit difficult to carry and store, but otherwise the packaging is stunning and looks quite fancy. The shade name is stickered along the side.

Frosted Fairy is quite a unique shade and I don’t have any such color. This color has perfect balance of blue and purple and pink to give an apt description of unicorns, fairies and pixie dust, how we imagine ’em to be! Frosted fairy is a lavender-blue duochrome color with slight pink iridescence. The shift between the colors is stunning. It has blue microshimmer which gives an overall pearl effect. This is a soft color and looks really subtle and pretty. If you have to pick one shade from this range, pick THIS shade. I have not seen a similar color in Indian market. All the shades in this range have a blue shimmer shift which is visible from different angles.

The consistency of this nailpolish is on the sheer side and needs 3 coats for full coverage. I like to wear this nailpolish on its own without any base color. Wearing a white/ black base color will change the color of the nailpolish. Frosted Fairy nailpolish applies evenly without streaking. The brush is long and picks enough quantity for one coat application.

Staying power for these nailpolish is amazing and it lasted 5 days with minor chipping.

The shade Frosted Fairy may look like it won’t suit deep complexions, but it does! This is such a pretty and unique nail color that you should definitely try it. This nailpolish color is already my mother’s current favorite 😛

Overall, Nykaa Unicorn Potion nail enamel come in rectangular glass packaging with interesting long and pointed rose gold cap. The packaging looks quite fancy. The shade Frosted fairy is a blue-lavender duochrome color with blue and pink iridescence. The color shift looks gorgeous. The consistency is sheer and builds to full opacity in 3 coats. The brush is long and picks enough quantity for single coat. Staying power is good and lasts 5 days with minor chipping. Frosted fairy shade is quite a unique color and will suit all Indian skintones. I will definitely repurchase this.

Chambor Dazzle Eye Pencil Review & Swatch

I cannot have enough colored eyeliners and purple eyeliners are my weakness. I have brown eyes and purple and green eyeliners look great on brown eyes. I had first purchased Chambor purple dazzle eyeliner about 6-7 years back and I have been repurchasing it ever since. This is my all time fav eyeliner shade. If I had to choose one eye makeup product for life, Purple Dazzle by Chambor would be it!  I have reviewed two other purple eyeliners before: Sephora (brown-plum color with pearl finish) and L’Oreal’s Le Smokey (blackish purple). I have a couple more purple eyeliners which I will review soon. Speaking of purple, have you checked some other gorgeous purple makeup products HERE?

I am reviewing three shades of Chambor Dazzle eyeliner in this post – Black Dazzle, Purple Dazzle and Teal Dazzle.

Chambor Dazzle Eye Pencil Review

Chambor Dazzle eyeliner pencils come in twist up plastic liner  with plastic cap which shuts tight.  The outer cardboard packaging has all the manufacturing and ingredient details. The white floral detailing on the liner looks attractive and shade name is printed along the side. The body of the eyeliner pencil is color coordinated to the shade so it is easy to spot if you have multiple shades. However, the recent packaging feels a little flimsy around the swivel up joint. The eyeliner twists one way and is non retractable, which is not very convenient to use as you never come to know when the eyeliner is about to finish. One time my eyeliner finished when I had lined one eye and started to line another! Luckily I had a fresh backup option with me. Also, if you twist more than what is required you cannot swivel it back down.

The texture of these eyeliner is amazing. It is not too creamy or too hard, just perfect to line the eyes smoothly. It glides on the eyes without tugging or pulling the eyelids. The pigmentation is good (though not as pigmented as Colorbar I-glides) and delivers good color in one thick swipe. You may need 2-3 swipes to build up the color intensity.

Chambor Dazzle eye pencil lasts very long. It will not budge until you remove it with oil based remover. It doesnot smudge or transfer to lower lash line (unlike THIS eyeliner by Colorbar). There is no glitter fallout in glitter shades.  If you have to put makeup on for long hours (for long journeys or weddings), these eyeliner pencils are a safe bet.

I donot advise applying these eye pencils on lower lash line as these always irritate my eyes when I do.

These eye pencils are bit pricey for the quantity but if you want a true long wear smudgeproof eyeliner these pencils are great. Also, the shade selection is amazing. I have my heart set on the Purple Dazzle shade, a color which I cannot find in other brands except Sephora which is even costlier than this!

Black Dazzle –  pigmented black color with matte finish

Purple Dazzle – blackish purple with purple microglitter. Glitter is not OTT and visible only when looked closely. This looks almost black from a distance and is my fav eyeliner for work. It is subtle enough for office wear, but shimmery enough to add a little oomph.

Teal Dazzle – beautiful teal blue color with pearl finish. Will suit all skintones.

Overall, Chambor Dazzle Eye pencil come in swivel up non retractable eyeliner packaging with cap which shuts tight. The texture is smooth and glides on eyelids without tugging/pulling. The pigmentation is good and need 2-3 swipes for full color intensity. The eyeliner is really transferproof and long lasting. It will not budge or smudge until you remove it with oil based remover. Shade selection of the Dazzle range is good. However, it is bit pricey compared to many other alternatives available. Also, the non retractable format is difficult to work with as you never come to know how much product is left. Also, if you swivel up more quantity than required, it cannot be retracted back. Black Dazzle is a pigmented black shade with matte finish. Teal Dazzle is beautiful teal color which will suit all skintones. Purple Dazzle is a gorgeous blackish purple with purple microshimmer. I absolutely love the shade Purple Dazzle and I have been repurchasing it for 6-7 years, will continue to purchase it in future as well!

Kiko Milano Holographic Nail Lacquer ~ 004 Review & Swatch

So we finally have a holographic nailpolish in India. *Yay* I was always tempted to get a holo nailpolish whenever I stumbled upon the gorgeous swatches of foreign brands. But the Indian brands are not truly up to the mark as compared to nailpolish game abroad. So one thing I like about Kiko Milano (which is still realtively new in Indian market) is that they launch new products in India about the same time they launch internationally. Holographic range was launched in Sept/Oct last year and I picked this beautiful purple shade 004. There are only 6 shades in this range and all the colors are pastel colored and not too bright. This is probably to bring out the holo effect more intensely.

To be honest, when I tried this nailpolish in the store I didn’t take much shine to it as I was expecting more bright colors but among the options available, this one seemed best. However, when I applied this nailpolish at home the first time, I was awestruck with its beauty. See the swatches below and you will know why.

Price: Rs 550 for 10 ml

Kiko Milano Holographic nail lacquer 004 review

Kiko Milano Holographic Nail Lacquer comes in round glass bottle with black cap. The cap is removable and the brush cap is underneath. Shade number and other details are stickered at the back in form of booklet (which has 6 pages btw!). The brush is short and not too wide but picks up enough quantity for one coat application.

Pigmentation is amazing and formula is smooth and easy to apply. It builds to full opacity in 1-2 coats, depending on how thick coats you apply. It dries fairly quickly and there is no waiting between application of  multiple coats.

Kiko Milano Holographic nail polish in shade 004 is a pastel lavender purple color with beautiful holographic microshimmer. The holo effect is heavily visible under  sunlight/ flash and faintly visible indoors. The holo effect is not in-your-face kind, but is subtle and fine.  I have taken pics under different lighting to show the depth of holo. The pics taken indoor are a tad darker than the actual color, which is pastel. Most of the pics are taken indoor in natural sunlight, unless stated otherwise.

The nailpolish stays put for 3 days without tip wear and 5 days without chipping. Price wise this is a bit expensive nailpolish, but I didn’t mind the price as I was too excited to be trying a holo nailpolish; plus the quantity is quite big.

If you are not much into holo effect and like glitter nailpolish more, do check out my favorite purple glitter nailpolish  HERE.

Do check my instagram video at the end of this post to see the Holographic effect in action.

Overall, I am in LOVE with this nailpolish! Kiko Milano holographic nailpolish comes in a sturdy, round bottle with black cap. The brush is wide and picks enough product for one coat. The pigmentation is amazing and goes fully opaque in 2-3 coats. It dries quickly and lasts 5 days without chipping.  The shade 004 is a beautiful lavender color with gorgeous holographic shimmer. The shimmer is more profound in sunlight/flash. This is the first holographic nailpolish in India and I am in love. Though I wish these came in more colors.

Kiko Nail Lacquer ~ 497 Pearly Indian Violet: Review & Swatch

Kiko is slowly becoming my favorite nailpolish brand. A visit to the Kiko Milano store means addition of at least 3-4 nailpolish in my stash. You can see my recent Kiko haul post, which mainly comprised of nailpolishes. The testers for the nailpolish makes it so much easy for the customers to try before buying a shade (something Indian brands should learn!). Price wise, these are super affordable (at par with Indian brands) but so much better in quality. Kiko Milano Nail Lacquer in shade 497 (Pearly Indian Violet) is the first nailpolish I put my eyes on and boy! what a gorgeous color it is. Gorgeous word is an understatement. I am head over heels in love with this shade.

Price: Rs 290 for 11 ml

Kiko Nail Lacquer 497 Pearly Indian Violet Review

This range of Kiko nail polish comes in a no-fuss cuboidal packaging with matte black cap. The shade number and other details are at the back in sticker leaflet (which has 6 pages btw!). Kiko doesnot have names to its shades, but only numbers. I picked the shade name for this nailpolish from its official website. The brush is long and decent. It picks enough nailpolish for one coat application. This range of Kiko nail lacquer is a good value for money with a WIDE range of color selection. This range probably has every color which you fancy.

Kiko Nail lacquer 497 Pearly Indian Violet is a BEAUTIFUL  eggplant purple color in a blue base. It looks like purple ink color with beautiful blue and burgundy shimmer.  The burgundy shimmer is more profound under natural sunlight or yellow light.  The formula and pigmentation is excellent and  1-2 coats are needed are full opacity.  Kiko nail polishes are quick drying and you don’t have to wait much before applying coats (if you apply thin coats). I tried to wear this nailpolish matted to bring out the shimmer in matte version but sadly adding a matte coat ruins the beautiful color as the shimmer is almost nonvisible after mattifying. The red shimmer is more visible in the bottle than on the nails.

Kiko nail polishes stay fairly long and I could see only a slight tip wear after 3 days (which normally starts next day itself with other nail polishes). Proper chipping started after 6-7 days which is impressive! This nailpolish has dark blue as base color which may cause staining of the nails so make sure to apply base coat underneath. Moreover, the sticker leaflet on the bottle also recommends to wear it with a base coat.

Kiko nail lacquer shade 497 (Pearly Indian Violet) is said to be a close dupe of Chanel Taboo.

Overall, I am in love with Kiko nailpolishes. This brand has become my absolute fav.  From color, to the quality, to the wear time, to the price, this nailpolish is a amazing. Shade 497 Pearly Indian Violet is a gorgeous eggplant color with blue and burgundy shimmer. The microshimmer adds depth to the overall color which looks absolutely stunning. The reddish shimmer is more visible in natural sunlight. This is a perfect Fall color and if you love to wear such deep colors, definitely check this one. This is already my fav shade and I am so glad I bought it. This shade 497 is a dupe for Chanel Taboo.

L’Oreal Paris Rouge Magique Lipstick : Vin Exquis ~ Review & Swatch

L’Oreal Paris Rouge Magique lipstick range was launched in summers this year and I instantly fell in love with this shade. This range is not available in L’Oreal counters and neither is any official information available on L’Oreal Paris website about this range (which is strange btw). So these lipsticks are available only online. Rouge Magique range was launched with 12 shades and I am reviewing a gorgeous pink purple color- Vin Exquis

Price: Rs 650

L’Oreal Paris Rouge Magique Lipstick Vin Exquis Review

L’Oreal Rouge Magique lipstick comes in attractive black and metallic pink packaging, which looks very vibrant. The metallic pink of the packaging reminds me of THIS nailpolish from Heavy Metal nailpolish from Colorbar 😀 The lower half of lipstick is black colored and matte in finish. The lid is metallic pink in color and glossy in finish. The shade name is stickered at the bottom and the range name is printed at the front of lipstick. The cap clicks shut tight so it does not come off in bags. The lipstick bullet is normal swivel-up and works smoothly. The bullet is quite sturdy and does not break from the base as other lipsticks from L’Oreal (Pure Rouge and Mattemoist) range *touch wood*

Formula wise, these are velvety matte lipstick These are more matte than L’Oreal ‘Moist Matte’ lipstick range. These are slightly creamy in finish so it does not settle into crazy dry-your-lips kind of matte finish. These lipstick are very comfortable to wear and looks completely matte at the same time. The lips do not feel parched when this lipstick is on. It glides smoothly on the lips and needs no effort in application like some extremely matte lipsticks.

Vin Exquis is a gorgeous plum purple shade with slightly pink tones. This shade instantly brightens up the face. The pigmentation is intense but you need two swipes for even coverage. It is not completely transfer proof and will transfer slightly, specially when freshly applied.  But the color stays put until you eat a full meal or oil based food. When it starts to lighten it leaves a beautiful plum color stain. It stays on my lips for 3-4 hours after which it starts to fade and even at the end of the day I can still see a nice plum color stain on my lips. However, it does get into fine lines of the lips.

This is a gorgeous plum color which is perfect for evening and festive season apart from being a beautiful Fall color. L’Oreal Paris Rouge Magique lipstick in shade Vin Exquis is very similar to Nykaa So Matte lipstick in Mischievous Plum. Mischievous Plum is tad darker and more purple and Vin Exquis is more vibrant and has more pink tones. I have swatched them both below.

Overall, L’Oreal Paris Rouge Magique Lipstick in shade Vin Exquis is a gorgeous plum purple color with slightly creamy finish. The pigmentation is great but needs 2 swipes for even coverage. It stays put for 3-4 hours and fades into a beautiful plum color stain. The metallic pink packaging is attractive and vibrant. These lipsticks are very comfortable to wear. But they do settle into fine lines. This makes a gorgeous shade for Fall and I already can’t stop wearing it enough. I am in love with this shade and will definitely repurchase this.

Colorbar Starry Eye Mascara ~ Starry Mauve : Review & Swatch

I love colored mascara and Indian markets don’t have much options to offer. So, whenever I spot one I immediately purchase it. Colorbar has been selling colored mascara for a while now but I got to know only recently when I bought it (maybe it was relaunched?). Out of the three shades available- Green, Blue and Purple, I bought the Purple one (I cannot have enough purple eye makeup).

Price: Rs 650 for 9 ml

Colorbar Starry Eyes Mascara Starry Mauve Review

Colorbar starry eyes mascara come in plastic tube with silver colored cap. The tube is transparent on its own so you can see the color of your mascara and sort it if you have multiple colors of the same. The shade name is sticker-ed at the base of the tube.  Like all Colorbar products, the outer packaging is silver cardboard containing all the details about ingredients, claims, price etc. The packaging is okay, not very great not too bad, just ok. The wand is short and stout with short bristles. The mascara is too creamy and ends up being clumpy if you are not careful. So apply only a small quantity at a go, wait for it to dry and then apply second coat. Also, it takes longer to dry than other mascaras. Being too creamy, the brush is unable to separate the lashes making it look clumpy.

But if applied carefully, this mascara looks gorgeous. Unlike the dramatic Lakme blue mascara I reviewed HERE, Colorbar Starry eyes mascara in shade Starry Mauve adds subtle color to the eyes which may not be much visible from a distance. But from close it looks beautiful.

Once dry the mascara does not crumble and stays put provided you donot rub your eyes. It is easy to remove so it wont break your eyelashes like some stubborn mascaras.

In the swatch below I have applied 2 coats of this mascara on my upper lashes.

Overall, I am not much impressed with this mascara. Colorbar Starry Eyes mascara is too creamy for my liking and ends up being clumpy on the lashes if not applied carefully. It takes long to dry so you need to wait a bit before applying another coat. The pigmentation is nice and it looks subtle on the eyes. It is not a dramatic color so not much visible from a distance, but looked closely this looks beautiful. I think it is pricey for the quality and I will probably not repurchase it.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12 hr wear: Love Affair ~ Review, Swatch

This is my first purchase from Sephora and the purchase was unintentional. I went to Sephora to check out Benefit cosmetics and the SA was wearing this beautiful eyeliner that I couldn’t refrain myself from asking. And one thing led to another and this beauty was sitting in my vanity by the end of the day 😀

Price: Rs 870 for 1.2g

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12 hr wear Love Affair Review

Sephora Contour eye pencil come in black sharpenable pencil with black plastic cap. The end of the pencil is color coded which makes it easier to spot if you have multiple shades from this range. The shade name is written towards the end of the pencil, at bottom of other details. Since this is a sharpenable eyeliner and not retractable, it leads to product wastage whenever you sharpen it.

Love Affair shade is a beautiful brown-plum color with pearl finish. This comes under shimmer shade but there is no “shimmer”, and the sheen is very subtle and not OTT. This makes a gorgeous work-wear shade if you like to experiment. Sephora Contour Eye Pencil Love Affair is slightly sheer in one coat and needs 2-3 coats to build to full intensity. This is not a one-stroke eyeliner like THESE. The texture is super creamy and glides easily. It does not tug or pull at the eyelids and so building up the coverage is not a problem.

Love Affair shade may not pop on your eyes if your eyelids are dark; so do swatch it at the counter before buying especially if you have dark eyelids.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil does not irritate my eyes, even on waterline.

The staying power of this eyeliner is impressive. It does not budge once it sets. It stays put on my eyes whole day (~10 hours). Also, this is waterproof eyeliner, so you do not have to worry if you have watery eyes, or you get wet in rain 😛

Overall, Sephora Contour Eye Pencil Love Affair is a brown-plum eyeliner with a beautiful pearly sheen. It is super creamy and easy to apply. It is waterproof and smudgeproof. This is a sharpenable pencil so it needs to be sharpened which leads to product wastage. The pigmentation is less in one stroke, but builds to full intensity in 2-3 swipes. The only con apart from the sharpenable thing is the price. This is bit expensive but such a gorgeous shade that I will probably buy this again.

xoxo, Blossom 🙂
