Colorbar Just Smoky Kajal ~ Just Blue : Review & Swatch

Colorbar Just Smokey range has been around for some years now and I am reviewing a beautiful blackish blue color- Just Blue 005 in this post.

Colorbar makes really good eyeliners and their I-glide range is my absolute favorite. Check some of the gorgeous shades HERE and HERE.

Price: Rs 650 for 1.2 g

Colorbar Just Smoky Kajal Just Blue Review

Colorbar Just Smokey Kajal is a double ended pencil with kajal at one end and the smudger at the other end. Both the ends of the pencil are fitted with black, plastic caps which can be interchanged. The pencil comes in Colorbar’s standard silver cardboard packaging with all the details about products and ingredients. The color of the eyeliner pencil is coordinated with the kajal shade making it easier to sort if you have multiple shades from this range. The silver detailing on the packaging is attractive which doesnot fade with time (unlike THIS eyeliner pencil).

Colorbar Just Smokey Kajal is soft and creamy and glides easily without any tugging or pulling on the eyelids. These are intensely pigmented and one swipe gives full coverage. These can be applied on waterline as kajal (kohl) or on eyelids as eyeliner. I like to wear it as eyeliner more than as kajal. When applied on waterline, it does not sting or make the eyes dry.

The smudger has dome shaped sponge tip which does a decent job in smudging to create a smokey look. But you have to be fast and smudge before this kajal sets. I use it only to smudge my kajal on waterline.  These kajal pencils are not smudge proof and do smudge when rubbed. The smudging is more if you have hooded eyes or oily eyelids. This is a long pencil and quantity is sufficient. But it needs to be sharpened which leads to product wastage.

Just Blue is a very unique shade which touches the right strings of my heart! It is a blackish blue/green color which looks amazing on brown eyes. I LOVE blackish (not black, black-ish! :P) eyeliners which are not black but some other color, but are so deep in color that it looks black, which makes it gorgeous and totally work-appropriate. It says blue but somehow looks deep green color to me. It looks blue/green after smudging, and looks blackish otherwise.

There is one small thing though, if you rub your eyes with this eyeliner on, or keep applying many layers of this, it starts to come off in flakes, like bits of an eraser 😐

Nonetheless, I absolutely love this shade and even though the I-glide range is better (and easier on pocket), I will still keep on repurchasing when it gets over. This is my second purchase already.

(See the smudging under the eyes?)

Overall, Colorbar Just smokey kajal in shade Just Blue is a gorgeous blackish blue/green eyeliner with a smudger at the other end. It is highly pigmented and applies like charm. One swipe is sufficient for full coverage. However, the pencil needs to be sharpened which leads to product wastage. Also, this is not smudge proof and it will smudge especially if you have hooded eyes and oily eyelids. If you try to smudge this kajal after it sets, it comes off in flakes which may irritate eyes. But nonetheless,  I will still repurchase this as I absolutely adore this blackish blue color.

Pssst, the nailpolish I am wearing in the pics above is one of the nailpolish in THIS post.

Kiko Nail Lacquer – 521 Pearly Ocean: Review & Swatch

Kiko makes really good nailpolishes at very affordable price. Nail lacquer range is the least expensive of all Kiko nailpolishes with such a HUGE (capital letters) spectrum of colors. The quality is very good and shade selection is Uh-may-zing! They have almost every color that you can wish for. I have 12 shades of this range with me as of now (which will keep on increasing depending on my visit to the store :D). You can check the other colors I picked  in my Haul Post HERE.

Price: Rs 290 for 11 ml

Kiko Nail Lacquer 521 Pearly Ocean Review

Kiko nail lacquer’s packaging reminds me of Colorbar’s previous nailpolish packaging (now they have standardized the packaging to thick square bottles). Kiko nail polish comes in cuboidal packaging with black cap. The shade number and other details are sticker-ed at the back. Kiko doesnot have names to its shades, but only numbers. I picked the shade name for this nailpolish from its official website. The brush is decent, not very thin not thick. It picks enough nailpolish for one coat application.

Kiko Nail lacquer 521 Pearly ocean is  gorgeous turquoise blue color with blue pearly shimmer. The color is super vibrant and the swatches below do not do justice to it. It has a slight pinkish-purple sheen which is not visible on the nails as such but can be seen in bottle if you look at it sideways. This gives the nailpolish a beautiful iridiscence. The consistency is slightly sheer and but goes opaque in 2-3 coats. Kiko nail polishes are quick drying and you dont have to wait much before applying coats (if you apply thin coats).

Kiko nail lacquer 521 (Pearly Ocean) being a shimmer nailpolish is smooth to apply, but takes a bit more time to remove.

Coming to the wear time, Kiko nail polishes stay fairly long and I could see only a slight tip wear after 3 days (which normally starts next day itself with other nail polishes). Proper chipping started after 6-7 days which is impressive!

I apply nailpolishes after applying a base coat so I didnot see any staining, but I have read that this particular shade may stain the nails, so apply this after using a base coat.

Pssst, The shade is more vibrant and turquoise- surf blue than the swatches below.

Overall, I am in love with Kiko nailpolishes. This brand has become my absolute fav.  From color, to the quality, to the wear time, to the price, this nailpolish is a dream. The huge shade selection will make you go crazy and whichever color your heart desires, they will most probably have it, The testers for the nailpolish makes it so much easy for the customers to try before buying a shade (something Indian brands should learn!). Price wise, these are super affordable (at par with Indian brands) but so much better in quality. Shade 521 Pearly Ocean is a vibrant turquoise blue color with blue shimmer. The color is gorgeous and I couldnot help myself looking at my hands again and again when I applied this. If you love blue on you nails, definitely check this one.

Maybelline Colorshow Party Girl nailpolish ~ Rock the Night 117: Review & Swatch

Glitter nailpolishes scream party and with all the festivity in the air, they are perfect to adorn at this time of the year. Party Girl collection from Maybelline colorshow has been around for sometime and I have already reviewed 3 of the shades: Tequila Sunrise, Fireworks and Party Lights. In this post I am reviewing another gorgeous shade: Rock the Night 117

Pssst! My love for Glitter nailpolish can be seen HERE 😀

Price: Rs 175 for 6 ml

Maybelline Colorshow Party Girl nailpolish Rock the Night 117 Review

Rock the Night 117 is a beautiful dark blue nail polish with dark blue  hexagonals and golden shimer suspended in a sheer blue baseThe nailpolish has golden shimmer which gives this naipolish a beautiful golden-peacock bluish sheen. Maybelline Party girl range of nail polish is loaded with the glitters which remain suspended and does not settle down at the bottom of the bottle. The glitter does not tug and the nail polish settles into a smooth finish. The dark blue hexagonals against a blue base gives an overall  diffused shimmer to this shade.

The packaging is standard packaging of their Colorshow nailpolish. It comes in cylindrical glass bottle with black cap. The shade name is engraved on top of the cap. The brush is decent and picks enough nailpolish for one coat. It takes 2 coats for full color intensity as one coat is slightly sheer. But if applied properly,  one coat looks beautiful on its own.

Rock the Night 117 being glitter nailpolish, its removal can be quite a pain, especially if you layer this polish a lot. You can remove such glitter polishes easily using the method I use HERE.

The tip wear/chipping starts after 3-4 days, which is quite okay, as I don’t expect these polish to be super long lasting.

Overall, Rock the Night 117 is a beautiful dark blue glitter nailpolish with a golden-peacock blue sheen. This nailpolish is loaded with glitter and 2 coats give full coverage. This is a beautiful color to glamour up the nails. Party Lights range of Maybelline Colorshow is my favorite so far and I will keep on repurchasing the shades.

Maybelline Superstay Gel Nail Color : Uptown Blue~ Review, Swatch

Maybelline has another range of nailpolish besides its Colorshow range- the Superstay range of nailpolish. This range of nailpolish is supposed to be long wear (as the name says) and give the finish of Gel nails. I have a few shades from this range and in this post I am reviewing a gorgeous pastel blue color – Uptown Blue

Price: Rs 350 for 10 ml

Maybelline Superstay Gel Nail Color 7 days: Uptown Blue Review

Maybelline Superstay Gel nail polish comes in a flat, glass packaging with white cap. The shade name is stickered on the top and the list of ingredients is at the back in peel off sticker form. Formula wise, these nailpolish are amazingly pigmented and creamy with glossy, plump finish. These are fast drying nailpolish. Apart from the formula, the next impressive thing about this nailpolish is the brush. The flat, wide, U-curve brush makes the application breezy and less prone to error, especially around cuticles. One coat is sufficient for full pigmentation if you apply carefully, but I have applied two coats in the swatches below.

Uptown Blue is a gorgeous surf blue color. You can call it pastel blue, or sky blue, but is more brighter and vibrant than either. I LOVE pastel colors and I love Blue so I had to but this shade (along with another pink color, shown in pic above) as soon as I spotted this at the Maybelline counters.

Now coming to the Superstay claim, this nailpolish does stick around for 5-6 days with minor tip wear, but I dont apply top coat and you can easily prolong the wear time by applying a top coat. I am a nailpolish hoarder and I know which nailpolish has better stay and which doesn’t. This nailpolish definitely is a win in long stay department.

Even though the price is more than the Colorshow range, so is the quality of this nailpolish. The higher price is totally justified. You will feel the difference between the two range as soon as you start to apply these.

Maybelline Superstay Gel nail color in shade Uptown Blue is VERY similar to the Maybelline Colorshow nailpolish in shade Blueberry Ice. If you are looking for a dupe, this is it. Even though they look similar, Uptown Blue is brighter than Blueberry Ice, even though it is not shown properly in pic below. And formula is any day better than the Colorshow one.

Overall, Maybelline Superstay Gel nail color in shade Uptown Blue is a beautiful surf blue color, (brighter than sky blue), the gorgeous vibrant pastel color making it ideal as spring/summer shade. The formula is creamy and highly pigmented. The wide, U-shaped brush makes the application incredibly easy. These are long lasting nailpolish and will last for 5-6 days at least if you wear it with a top coat. The formula is so nice that I have already bought a couple of more shades from this range. If you like such vibrant, pastel shades then definitely check this shade out, you will not be disappointed!

Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara: Royal blue ~ Review & Swatch

Lakme recently introduced the colored variant of its classic Eyeconic mascara in blue color. Colored eyeliners are relatively new in drugstore market in India and I am so glad Lakme introduced one. It is currently available in only blue shade (apart from the classic black one) which I am reviewing  here.

Price: Rs 350 (INR) for 9 ml

Lakme Eyeconic curling mascara Royal blue Review

This mascara comes in similar packaging to its black variant. It comes in black tube packaging with shade name sticked on bottom. The details are mentioned on the cardboard packaging it comes in. The wand is curved which is meant for curling effect. The bristles of the wand are short and coats the eyelashes richly. However, I do get some smudges here and there on my skin while applying.

The color is bright cobalt blue, and not royal blue (dark blue), is highly pigmented and quite visible from the first coat itself. Being such vibrant blue, it screams drama and adds beautiful color to your overall makeup look.

The formula is slightly wet, which takes sometime to dry, which is why I get smudges on my brow bone sometimes. It does not clump but if you apply more than 3 layers then it might. The end of the wand picks up more product which proves a hassle sometimes, so do remove that excess bit before applying. The mascara definitely gives a lift to the eyelashes but it does not have a significant curling effect. The formula does not feel heavy on the eyelids.

The mascara is not waterproof but does not smudge after drying either. It can be easily removed with a makeup remover. It can also be washed with cleanser directly with a little massage. It did not smudge after 5-6 hours of wear.

I love to pair this mascara with a black liner to add a subtle hint of color on the eyes. This way makes it suitable for office wear as well.

However, I do have some issues with the packaging as somehow one day the stopper inside the tube (meant to wipeout the excess product on the wand ) stopped working (?) or it broke or shifted and I ended up with thick, gloopy layer of product on the brush.  And after one or two days it started to work fine again :-/

Overall, this is a beautiful blue mascara which is affordable and doesnot break bank! The consistency is slightly wet and 2 coats are sufficient to provide full color and curling effect. The curling effect is not that prominent but it does give a lift to the eyelashes. The vibrant blue color adds drama to the overall makeup look. Colored eyeliners are relatively new in the market (atleast in the drugstore segment) and this one is definitely worth trying. If you find the color too bold, you can always tone it down by wearing it with a black eyeliner. However, I do have some issues with the packaging as somehow the stopper inside the tube (meant to wipeout the product on the wand ) broke/shifted one day and I ended up with thick layer of product on the brush.

L’Oréal Paris Super Liner Gel Intenza ~ Sapphire Blue: Review & Swatch

Loreal Paris super liner sapphire blue review

L’Oreal Paris nailed it this time in the eye makeup department. Every year L’Oreal Paris introduces new products in their Cannes collection, and this time they launched beautiful limited edition lipsticks, new shades of lipglosses and gorgeous Gel Intenza eyeliners. I couldn’t have been happier with the shades they have launched in their eyeliner. Blue is my favorite color and there are two super pretty blue shades in this launch. I am reviewing the shade ‘Sapphire Blue‘ here.

loreal paris gel intenza eyeliner

Price: Rs 875

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gel Intenza eyeliner comes in a glass tub packaging with a gold screw cap. The gold accents makes it look pretty and high end. The tub is small and cute and looks sturdy even though it is made of glass. The bottom part of the tub has a sticker indicating the shade name and details for easier identification. The eyeliner comes with its own brush. The brush is okayish. It is decent but not that great. I can make thick lines with it but not thin lines. Also, the brush doesn’t have a proper cap. I prefer the Maybelline gel eyeliner brush over this.

The texture of L’Oreal Super Liner Gel Intenza eyeliner is buttery smooth and creamy. So creamy that one cannot apply full color on the eye in one stroke as the product itself gets swiped with brush stroke. Other than that, it applies like a breeze. There is absolutely no tugging or pulling at all. The pigmentation is great. But due to the soft formulation, the brush somehow doesn’t pick up the product properly so you have to keep dipping it in the tub to take more of it. The brush either picks up very less or too much amount of the product.  2-3 applications are needed for full color intensity. The eyeliner dries pretty quickly into a smudge proof, water resistant finish.

The shade Sapphire Blue is dark navy blue in color. It looks almost blackish with blue shimmer. It appears black only from far and under certain lights. The shimmer is subdued and doesn’t make it OTT. This is a great everyday wear shade and such a nice alternative to plain black eyeliners.

I have mixed feelings for the longevity. It definitely will NOT stay 36 hours, as it claims. This product is not as long lasting as it claims to be. It claims to be waterproof but its not fully waterproof. Vigorous rubbing with a moist cloth or finger causes it to come off. It does not smudge or crease, but it tends to fade after about 8 hours especially near the inner corner of eyes. I remove the eyeliner with my Natio eye makeup remover. You can use any makeup remover or oil/vaseline to remove this.

Another thing I noticed is the wrong color coding of both the blue Gel Intenza eyeliners- Royal blue and Sapphire blue. It seems that the colors on its packaging, even the names have been swapped. ‘Sapphire blue’ eyeliner is actually dark navy blue in color and ‘Royal blue’ is jewel toned blue in color. The color code of Sapphire blue shade on its cardboard packaging, as well as below the tub packaging is actually jewel toned blue and not navy blue which is the actual color of the product in the tub. This confusion led me to buy the wrong shade actually!

Overall, this is a beautiful everyday wear color and such a fun alternative to boring blacks. The product is buttery smooth and application is such a breeze, even for a novice. The brush could have been better though. And I am not impressed with the longevity either. Even though it is bit pricey and the longevity issues aside, I am probably going to repurchase it once it gets over, mainly because of its gorgeous dark navy blue color.

Pop of Blue – Tribal Nail art

tribal nail art

Spring/Summer is in full bloom now and its the perfect time to flaunt them bright paws. Though I do not follow this dark-for-winters or bright-for-summers thing religiously, I thought this bright, funky nail art is just perfect for this time.

I love tribal design. On clothes, on footwear, on nails- you give it to me and I will wear it happily. Actually I am on a hunt for bright funky tribal sandals for the summers. But I never seem to find the right one. Anyhoo, I hope you like my pop of blue nail art.

Actually I chose this combination of orange and blue accidentally. I wanted to wear orange nail polish and suddenly I spotted this blue one and I wanted to wear this one too. And I thought why not  mix ’em up and have some fun 😀

I have done tribal nail art before as well. Check it HERE. I have created the design using nail art pen. You can use an old eye liner brush as well.

Orange: Colorbar Tangerine Mojito

Blue: Maybelline Colorshow – Blueberry Ice
